Summary

A mouse is taking a stroll through the deep, dark wood when along comes a hungry fox, then an owl, and then a snake。 The mouse is good enough to eat but smart enough to know this, so he invents 。 。 。 the gruffalo! As Mouse explains, the gruffalo is a creature with terrible claws, and terrible tusks in its terrible jaws, and knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of its nose。 But Mouse has no worry to show。 After all, there’s no such thing as a gruffalo。 。 。 。

Really nice book for any child, especially our inner child。 Beautiful designs, amazing rhyming story, exciting, a simple & funny way to teach survival smartly, without violence, just using your wisdom along the way。 My son loves The Gruffalo but the mouse a little more。

The Gruffalo is a fun and whimsical book that tells of a little mouse that tell their own stories of made up recipes to other animals in the forest, in order to keep them from eating themself。 The little mouse is clever in the way of story telling and in the end he winds up telling the gruffalo that he's going to eat them too! This book is the favourite of my two children, two and eight years old。 They love to read it before going to bead, and know the story by heart。

My five year old nephew says he likes this book because the mouse is clever, but the gruffalo needs to be braver。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is one of my 3 year old daughter's favourite books。 Every now and then, she will ask me to read it to her。 I put on a voice for each of the characters; she loves it whenever I switch voices。 I'm sure she understands that each character is different; yet the Fox, the Owl and the Snake actually share a goal in that they want to eat the Mouse。 The Gruffalo initally wants to eat the Mouse too, but as we see, the Mouse employs trickery and cunning in a positive way (to save his own life)。Julia D This is one of my 3 year old daughter's favourite books。 Every now and then, she will ask me to read it to her。 I put on a voice for each of the characters; she loves it whenever I switch voices。 I'm sure she understands that each character is different; yet the Fox, the Owl and the Snake actually share a goal in that they want to eat the Mouse。 The Gruffalo initally wants to eat the Mouse too, but as we see, the Mouse employs trickery and cunning in a positive way (to save his own life)。Julia Donaldson has written a good tale about how to cleverly get out of tough situations; especially in the midst of predators。 The story may seem like an anti-Boy Who Cried Wolf, seeing as the Gruffalo turns out to be real in the confines of this book, after the Mouse seemingly boasts about knowing such a creature。 However, the Mouse's "boasts" are not there to hurt the feelings of the 3 creatures he meets。 The Mouse uses the fact that he "knows" the Gruffalo to scare the creatures into not eating him。 The Mouse knows fully well that they are all cunning creatures who just want to end his life by consuming him。 The fact that he makes a fool out of all of them, plus the Gruffalo, shows that the Mouse knows how to keep himself safe in a land full of predators。 It's an important lesson to teach children - that there are dangerous predtators and that they need to be smart about dealing with those monsters。 There is the danger of telling fibs, yes, but parents need to realise that "stop telling fibs" does not cut it anymore。Kids usually DO tend to tell the truth。 It is very important to listen to what they have to say, especially if you are the parent or guardian of them。 Yes, kids can tell fibs about other people, even about themselves,。 As parents and guardians we need to appropriately manage their expectations and get to the bottom of their queries and issues in an appropriate way。A lot of us may have faced terrible ordeals in the past; at the hands of predators。 Sometimes we have even fallen victim to old family curses as well。 We have to perservere though。 We need to understand and teach our kids, so that they can help to lead a better generation。 Tabboo subjects have to be touched upon in order to survive。Apologies for getting off track a bit there - reading books to my little girl have opened my eyes as to how I was treated when I was a child。 Most parents of my generation, who were raised in the 90s-00s, know that managing expectations outweighs the cultural travesty that was hounded on us by past generations。 It is definitely time for a change。 We can all manage expectations and we can all adapt in ordrer to survive。 There's a message here and Julia Donaldson portrayed it very well。 The only danger is interpreting it as glamourising fib-telling - but that can easily be explained due to the fact that we live in a world were predators unfortunately exist in human form as well as the dangerous creatures mentioned in The Gruffalo。 。。。more

This is only the audio track, however, this is one of the greatest stories ever told-- for any age。

This is a humorous story about how a mouse outsmarted all of the animals in the forest。 There are some “big words” like astounding。 The grade level for this book 1-3。 I don’t really think that it would be a valuable book for me to read aloud to my class because there is no clear lesson and I could spend my class time on books that teach students something or that have a moral to the story。 This would be a fun story for students to read on their own。

Sweet!I am a non-native English speaker and I came to know about the Gruffalo in the children section of the supermarket。 I once tried the Gruffalo biscuits and I fell in love with this stage character。 Eventually, I decided to buy the book and read it。 I love it! I love to give each character a different voice and the drawing are fantastic with vivid colours and warmth。 It is a must!

A delightful story of overcoming fears with friendship。 The tale of a small critter being scared and creating friends to protect him is a fun story for children。 I very much enjoyed this story and am excited to learn there is a series!

This book I found is a classic children's favourite, which I also read as a young girl。 With pictures, as well as easy reading and clear font, it includes rhyming to tell the story of The Gruffalo。 I found it fantastic that it included rhyming, something you begin learning within primary school at a young age, whilst it also simply told a story。 Through the story being easy to follow, it made rhyming in terms of poetry appear more fun when being creative, rather than what I'd personally associat This book I found is a classic children's favourite, which I also read as a young girl。 With pictures, as well as easy reading and clear font, it includes rhyming to tell the story of The Gruffalo。 I found it fantastic that it included rhyming, something you begin learning within primary school at a young age, whilst it also simply told a story。 Through the story being easy to follow, it made rhyming in terms of poetry appear more fun when being creative, rather than what I'd personally associate poetry and rhyming with, which is hard and confusing- for me。 。。。more

What's the scariest animal in the forest? A fox, owl, or snake? A gruffalo? Or a mouse? Such an imaginative story。 Love the repetition。 Love the rhyme。 Five stars。 Can't believe it took us so long to discover it (very long line at the library)。 What's the scariest animal in the forest?
